ESADE and Repsol Foundation Sign Collaboration Agreement to Promote Research on Economic Globalisation and Geopolitics

With its contribution, Repsol will be supporting the activities of the ESADE Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics and the creation of practical knowledge in its fields of study

Barcelona, May 25, 2011 — A collaboration agreement signed today by Eugenia Bieto, Director General of ESADE, and César Gallo, Vice President of the Repsol Foundation, sets out the shared goal of conducting research on economic globalisation and geopolitics and creating practical knowledge for companies, governments, institutions and the rest of civil society.

Under this new agreement, the Repsol Foundation – which forms part of the Members’ Assembly of the ESADE Foundation – will promote the activities of the ESADE Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics (ESADEgeo) by supporting the creation of practical knowledge in these fields and identifying opportunities to apply it.

The agreement will also intensify the involvement of both institutions in supporting education, innovation and knowledge. Ms. Bieto thanked the Repsol Foundation for its initiative and praised both institutions for “pooling their efforts to contribute to the development of society and to the well-being of people in a globalised world". She added that “education and knowledge are playing an increasingly important role in allowing companies to better understand and adapt – and in a less traumatic way – to geopolitical dynamics and to the global economy, which is constantly changing".

Mr. Gallo observed: “The Foundation is joining this initiative because it understands that, in an increasingly globalised world filled with new economic and social challenges, projects like this one are fundamental to the creation and dissemination of knowledge that is useful for companies, governments and institutions, which in turn contributes to improving society."

In 2009, ESADE created the Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics (ESADEgeo) and appointed Prof. Javier Solana as its first president. Since then, ESADEgeo’s intense activity has generated numerous reports, articles and other publications. It has also organised several geopolitical training sessions, which brought together a total of more than 600 participants. In the medium term, ESADEgeo aims to position itself as an international leader in the study of economic globalisation and global governance and their effects on different social, economic and political actors.
